This opera was billed as part 2 of the Magic Flute and the overture has all the ingredients. It starts with the masonic chords followed by a flute solo then the masonic chords again. The Allegro features Papageno’s glockenspiel and pan pipes and achieves great variety by alternating these elements with a hymn-like 2nd subject and powerful tuttis.
