Allegro risoluto;   Adagio;   Finale: Allegro molto

Works for cello occupy a significant position in Genishta’s output, and there are indications that he played the instrument. The publication of this sonata was reported in the November and December 1834 issues of Hofmeister’s Monatsberichte, and the work was favourably reviewed in the Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung in January 1837, being noted for its beauty and directness of expression. The second sonata attracted praise from Robert Schumann, who described Genishta in the diary of his trip to Moscow as a ‘gentle man for whom nothing is good enough’. There are also a third sonata, and sets of Nocturnes and Variations.
