Ion Bogdan Stefanescu, first flautist of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest and a dear friend asked me, before a tour in Japan, to write a piece for flute and string trio, based on a traditional Japanese melody. The result is a miniature whose sound more closely resembles early 20th century French music rather than that of the extreme orient.
