Amadigi di Gaula received its first performance at the King’s Theatre in the Haymarket on the 25th. May 1715. It ran for 6 performances and was revived in 1716 and 1717. The Overture is noteworthy for some fine use of the oboes and bassoon as soloists, both in the main body of the Allegro, and in the Gavotta.

At one point the Concerto Grosso Op. 3 no. 4 became associated with this Opera as it was given as an entr’acte for the benefit of the Orchestra, (Burney says 20th. June 1716.) One source of this piece describes it as ‘Orcaster (sic!) Overture in Amadis’
