[Largo]; Allegro

Alexander Balus was first given in Covent Garden in March 1748, when it was given 3 performances. It received one further outing in March 1754 where it was padded out with numbers added from the abandoned ‘Alceste’

Handel thought sufficiently well of this overture to re-work the opening ‘French Overture’ section as the opening of the Concerto a due Cori in Bb.major.
