George Gershwin (1898-1937) was an American composer and pianist whose compositions spanned popular, jazz and classical genres. Among his best-known works are Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris, songs such as Swanee and I Got Rhythm, and the opera Porgy and Bess.
